The RBOC's now know they have competition with the cable companies. They do want to generate revenue but they are begining to realize (perhaps too slowly) that reveneue generation shouldn't come from bandwidth or "lines".. but from services. The cable model has been like this from the begining - you get basic, expanded basic, pay movies, and pay per view. Pretty soon you'll be able to get telephony on cable as well as gaming, and you can already get ISP access...all SERVICEs which you pay the cable company extra for. Notice that the cable comany never charges you for your connection! The RBOC's still don't really know how to migrate to a services model.. but the point is, that the more services they can get you to purchase over a single DSL connection the more revenue they will generate....... at a lower cost of support!!!

Doug,

Re: don't the RBOC's wanna sell you all those sepereate lines??

I'm sure they would. My interest though is in what this may mean to BRCM. Are we talking more modems? Or just a feature that makes DSL attractive enough to get the rollout off of what seems like dead center? Is LU a BRCM customer? Does the stinger get located at the telco's office? Or in the home? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dough: You are correct. There is no incentive to sell ADSL unless they need to free up the twisted pairs and/or a cable competitor is breathing down their neck. My 2 phone lines phone and modem net the RBOC more than if it were sold as one ADSL. JFD
