re: "The drillers are the play"

If you are talking about offshore then I don't understand why. The oil prices today are artificial in that they can quickly disappear if OPEC countries start cheating.

Given the rig counts over the quarter I can't see any way that most drillers and service companies can report a good quarter. Everybody seems to be buying in based on the E&P's boosting their budgets but I also have seen scant evidence to support that either.

If OPEC starts to cheat I see the drillers and service stocks doing a "crash and burn".

To me the only companies who are benefitting from the current prices are the folks who are producing and selling oil and Natural Gas, and they should do VERY well. Land based drillers and service companies are also doing somewhat better, but rig counts are STILL BELOW LAST YEAR.

Don't get me wrong. I am happy to see the stocks going up. I just don't see any fundamental reason for it given earnings season is coming up. What am I not seeing?
