Actually, if you are going to take a that sort of view, homosexuality is at least as maladaptive for the species as incest, against which there is also a powerful taboo. Not all incestuous unions will result in children, and not all that do will have genetic defects, and yet there is a strong prohibition against them. Similarly, if everyone became homosexual, the species would be in danger of dying out. It could be argued that we could use artificial insemination, but that is irrelevant from the standpoint of the origin of the taboo.....

I actually think the parallel between extreme practitioners of homosexuality (male, at lasat) and debilitating substance abuse (as opposed to controlled use) is a lot closer than you do.

And why do you reject n>2, for either homo- or heterosexual marriages? Anything more than priestly imposed custom? <g>
