No, I think the Athlon will eventually be a fine system. However keeping to form, AMD continues to do what they do best, mismatch designs with available technology. The K6 family was a good design ahead of their fab technology, hence the 100s of $millions lost. The Athlon is a excellent design that doesn't match up with the available manufacturing technology. This time it's motherboards (supposedly). and we have yet to see if AMDs process can support it at a profit. All this underscores the mismanagement that has been in place for years. They just don't understand the difference between a design and a product. I don't think they ever will. Customers buy products but AMD just does designs. Intel knows that a good but not necessarily excellent design can become a great product. AMD and their loyal followers will never figure this out.
