It appears that religion and party's flag - in this case Saffron - don't matter as long as the politicians deliver.

Well, one has to say that in this case what he delivered is pork. As CM he can afford to do that. Ordinary MPs and MLAs cannot.

It is silly to think of Naidu as a BJP man. He could easily turn on a dime and join a secular front of parties ranged against the BJP if it suits him.

With so many regional stalwarts gaining strength in the NDA, it makes little sense to talk of a stable government, and even more so with a dominant party that tries to force its ideas down the throats of its coalition partners. The developments in the coming months will be swift and unpredictable. No one can say with certainty how events would turn out.

I would regard Arun Nehru as a very significant catalyst in initiating all kinds of permutations and combinations going forward. A 1997-style split in the BJP along the lines of "dual membership" cannot be ruled out either. And ironically, the fewer the seats that Sonia Gandhi's party wins, the more the likelihood of such an event.
