hey gottfried,

yes, i see that free bios fix. symantec is good to offer that, imo.

i just took out the norton bonus pack cd-rom that came with systemworks2.0 and installed the 2000 BIOS test and fix on one of my machines. (i have two nearly identical dell 166's and i like to test new stuff on 'the other one') <g3> first thing i was instructed to do was to create a BIOS test disk on a formatted floppy, then reboot from the floppy. instructions were then displayed on the screen. very straight-forward and easy.

as a result of the test i learned that my system supports the century change and does not require BIOSFix. the leap year calculations for the years 2000 to 2015 are also correct. it was cool to watch the screen flip through the february 28th - march 1st dates for each year, beginning 2 seconds before midnight and ticking off 2 seconds into the next day.

guess i'll create a test disk for this machine now.

let me know if you take symantec up on their free download offer. i bet it's the same thing i just did.

:)

mark

If I only knew about all of the goodies on my PC

Free stuff you already have...

Take a peek on Win98 CD, install the RESKIT sampler, and you'll find a basket of goodies. Things like a utility that explains what each file in Windows does, easy ways to set registry values for useful results, Tweak-UI, and a graphical system to manage the whole works.

The curious will be delighted.

Cheers, PW.
