It is interesting that Nortel makes Merrill's top ten tech list but is left out of Red Herring's top 100 tech list.

hi Marty, Ken & all - I stand corrected 8-b . NT did have a intraday all time hi [by an 1/8 <G>] and volume did pick up after my post in which I am responding.

It is one of the rare moments that I don't mind having eggs on my face <VBG>

best, Bosco

How about this to put a smile on your face. NT is becoming a darling. LU took a bit of a beating today.

It was indeed the Merrill report that boosted NT today, plus positive comments from other sources. Good stuff.....NT is finally getting some real respect. It has been long overdue.

Nortel Stock Rises On Thumbs Up From Merrill

TORONTO (Reuters) - Shares in Nortel Networks Corp. (NYSE:NT - news) climbed more than 5 percent in heavy trade Thursday after
brokerage Merrill Lynch chose the communications gear maker as one of its top 10 technical stocks.

Nortel rose C$3.60 or 5.5 percent to close at C$69.35 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on volume of nearly 4.2 million shares. In New York it
rose $2-11/16 to $46-15/16.

Merrill Lynch published ``a special report for aggressive investors' on September 8, and picked Brampton, Ontario-based Nortel as one of its ``top 10 tech' issues. It said
that Nortel, which makes digital telecommunications switching and communications equipment, was ``the first to introduce a complete family of digital switching and
transmission systems and is one of the world's leading suppliers of those systems.'

By contrast, Nortel's rival Lucent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:LU - news) was not chosen. Its shares sank $1-11/16 to $64-7/16.

Also, Christine Callies, chief U.S. market strategist at Credit Suisse First Boston, told CNBC Thursday morning that she favored Nortel. ``We were emphasizing our view
that the equity markets were underestimating the longevity of the U.S. business cycle,' she told Reuters.

Telecommunications companies would benefit from the continued strength and Nortel was in the ``sweet spot,' she said. Also, the company has shown a steady
improvement in efficiency.

Patrick Houghton, senior vice-president at Sutro & Co., also pointed to a Nortel deal with Sweden's Telia, unveiled Thursday, under which Nortel will provide optical
networking parts and services for Telia's national network. ``They keep on winning optics,' he said.
