I thought it was an exceedingly innovative way to segue into $1500 weekend seminars and a reported $600 per month "members only" private investing website. I imagine that most of those paying for these services are pleased. The rest of us can only wonder why someone with as much capital as is necessary to offset the charge against trading profits by such expensive advice would feel it necessary to pay for it. It seems to me that people who sell investment advice spend a lot of time attracting new clients as people tend to drop out for various reasons. One could argue that by paying the membership fee, SI members are pre-qualified as serious investors with discretionary income. What better way to recruit new customers than have a thread that repeatedly appears as one of the most active? One reason for many of the disruptions, protests, and ad hominem attacks we occasionally see on SI could be that other popular posters providing similar advice can be seen as a threat to business. It might be advantageous, therefore, to disrupt their concentration or question their integrity. That is not say that some of those people do not deserve more scrutiny, or that their actual investing qualifications/record/results may not hold up under such scrutiny. Despite the best of intentions, those who would save others from themselves invariably learn that, ultimately, "A fool and his(her) money are soon parted." Anyone who follows the exploits of Janice Shell, marcos, and Jeffrey Mitchell (to name but a few), knows that they often encounter the same lame investors who think they have found the way to get rich quick. It seems to me that it is quite difficult, in fact, to cheat an honest man(woman). A greedy one or a lazy one is an easy mark. In the end, there is no substitute for personal due diligence. Finding a messiah to lead one to the promised land of wealth and happiness is a fool's dream, don't you agree? Regards, Randy P.S. Like you, I find that some of the best posts are by those who are in the middle of the "Most Bookmarked" list.
