This stock continues to amaze me. Yesterday: 1,035,000 shares traded. Today: maybe, maybe 300,000. Such extreme volatility in volume. Not sure if bullish or bearish sign but definitely amazing.

THREE MILLION DVD PLAYERS WILL BE BOUGHT IN 1999

September 10, 1999 -- Several manufacturers have guessed at the total number of DVD players that will have been purchased this year. We've heard numbers ranging from 2.5 million to 4 million. Recently, Intelect, a New York-based market research company, pegged the number at 3 million, with the potential to hit 3.25 million -- if manufacturers can crank out enough players to meet demand.

Earlier in 1999, Intelect "quietly" estimated that 1999 DVD sales would be 2.4 million units. Its primary concern was that the consumer electronics industry did not have enough production capacity to support higher demand levels, especially with a worldwide rollout of DVD underway.

What changed their minds?

New manufacturers and brands such as Funai, Symphonic, Emerson and Konka have delivered or committed to delivering players for the fall and Christmas seasons.

Disney has announced that nine animated titles will be released on DVD this year
Mom-and-pop video stores, as well as Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, are adding DVDs to their shelves. The total number of outlets offering DVDs is now 10,000, according to Warner Home Video.
The number of available titles has increased dramatically. There are now over 3200 mainstream software titles available, not counting the approximately 1400 adult titles.
