Hi Frank,

You'll pardon the expression, but it looks like you stepped in it.

The USER.DAT and USER.DA0 are half of the registry's files.

The registry itself comprises of SYSTEM.DAT and USER.DAT, the two DA0 files are the backups of the originals. Everytime your system boots 'cleanly' Windows copies the .DAT files into DA0 files since it assumes everything is fine.

The SYSTEM.DAT file is for local hardware settings and base application settings. The USER.DAT file is for user information, settings, icon listings, etc.

If you can, try replacing your original USER.DAT files. The icon problem can be tackled from there. Trying to replace Outlook Express mail settings is an unbelievable pain in the a*s.

FYI...Outlook Express information is kept in C:\WINDOWS\APPLICATION DATA\OUTLOOK EXPRESS and several registry keys. (very difficult to backup and restore..trust me)

Good luck,

Rich

Try this

C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\UserMPS.*

You may get something???
