Then comes the current limits imposed by the Dems: they force people to beg for $$$ non-stop or limit the race to self-funded candidates. Gone are the days when Gene McCarthy could topple a Prez with the help of a few sugar daddy's. Was Gene corrupted? Did they buy him? What's most bizarre of all is that the Dems under Clinton broke most of the existing law and their only refrain is not vigorous enforcement - no way - they divert from all the Clinton illegalities to push for more laws! I agree with Will, political speech is the most protected by the Constitution. Limits should be abandoned in fact as Clinton/Gore did in reality and the substitute should be complete disclosure. That, of course, would not be welcomed by the Dems so adept at laundering Chinese and Indian tribe $$$ or by their allies in the media who want to control both the issues and debate.
