BP, I can't get to excited about MRVC's announcement... first of all, they're not a player in the router market; second the product is being pre-announced way ahead of schedule (a sign of desperation); but mostly, no one is going to care that it runs Linux. The product will have to win based on price-performance, feature set, capabilities, that sort of thing...

Linux is a battle over on the OS side... in the router market it's a nit. I'd give MRVC a brownie point or two for some creative marketing and spec sheet writing (plus for convincing Van Kasper to hype their stock), but not much else.

My opinion - meaningless. Companies buy complete networking solutions and don't load unique applications or hire ISV's to build on top of "standard" OS's to tailor their networks. Companies like LU, NT, and CSCO are at the bleeding edge of application development on routers and ISV's are following. Having a linux based router provides no value add to customers. It's just hype.
