I kept a used bookstore for a while. I had a copy of DeSade's writing kicking around the shop for about a year. I will confess to having read excerpts from Justine, and not much else in the volume.

I was referring to his contemporaries. DeSade's attacks on throne and altar were very popular with the boho literary crowd, and I believe after a while a more "mainstream" audience as well.
