"They (MRV)are known for making LED's, and some Ethernet switches that haven't done much in the way of market share."

Gee, I think I'll sell 2morrow. Optical Access has been reduced to "making some LED's";-), & Nbase/Xyplex dismissed because we make only "some Ethernet switches", ;-). What perception!

SOME VERY GOOD STUFF- relates to past/present speculations:

1) "crappy.nbase.com" is (as guessed) a crappy old machine.

2) "Near.net" is the old New England Academic and Research
Network, administered (now) by GTE Internetworking,
formerly known as BBNPlanet. The domain and machine
names have remained the same since the early days of the net.(no relationship to Schlomo's son!)

3) Project Red-X (not "redex") will be launched by Red Sea Networks (an offshoot of Nbase-Xyplex Littleton) in September. red-x.com

Whew! I hope that clears some things up! So many names, so many divisions, so much information to wade through!
