Maybe it is our assumptions about God that are wrong.

Instead of a loving caring mother, maybe God is a stern taskmaster father.

Maybe it is the human desire to have happy endings that humans manipulate God's teachings, so that they give us a warm fuzzy, instead of a sense of duty.

Intervention would necesarily preclude the right of free will. If we did not have free will, what would be the point. In order for there to be an omnipotent God worthy of worship, constant intervention is precluded.
