Numbers for Volume for 3rd Q
by: rahwaybull 82887 of 82895
Many people have recently been worried or undaunted about NITE's trading volumes for the third quarter. Either way, I wanted to give some feedback to this board in which certain people have been very informative. Either way, I hope this helps.

Nasdaq trading volumes for 1st Quarter:
January - 2,011,968,065
February - 1,666,501,213
March - 2,024,939,645
TOTAL
1st Q 5,703,408,923

Nasdaq trading volumes for 2nd Quarter:
April - 2,421,518,940
May - 1,882,550,840
June - 1,867,223,977
TOTAL
2nd Q 6,171,293,757

Nasdaq trading volumes for 3rd Quarter (so far):
July - 2,219,430,894
August - 2,011,459,140
September - ?

1st Quarter trading volume was 5,703,408,923. 2nd Quarter trading volume was 6,171,293,757. Volume increased 8.2% from 1st Q. to 2nd Q.

Presently, volume for the months of July and August are 4,230,890,034. If NITE is to match the same increase in volume of 8.2% from the 2nd Q, then it will need volume of 2,446,449,811
in September to match this. Therefore, it would need to be slightly higher than the highest volume month of April.

I believe Mr. Pasternak has stated that volume growth will be 5-10% quarter over quarter. 2nd Q Nasdaq volume increased 8.2% from the 1st Q. For the 3rd Q, September would have to be very strong to reach another 8.2% increase. So far, it has been strong, but I do not believe it has been strong enough to reach that number. Yet, there is still three weeks left. And if it doesn't reach an 8.2% increase, SO WHAT! I do believe that if the volume continues to be this strong in September, that NITE's trading volume will increase at least (being conservative) 5% over 2nd Q's numbers. For a 5% increase over 2nd Q Nasdaq volume number, NITE will need to do 2,248,968,410 in volume in September. I believe that will be reached easily if volume continues to be heavy.

I believe August's numbers for Nasdaq volume were very encouraging considering how volume seemed to had dried up. I am very long on NITE and believe NITE's trading volume on the Nasdaq for this quarter is nothing to worry about. I think it will reach Mr. Pasternak's prediction of 5-10% quarter over quarter, at least in the Nasdaq trading volume.

Good luck!

This is fantastic, and only reinforces my thoughts that the public is being duped into thinking that the ECN's are the "god-send" of wall street.

Gary, not to be snide, but where do you get this stuff? Most of the "public" doesn't know its ECN from its elbow. The public only cares about liquidity. When they go to buy or sell, they want shares there to do so. I'll state it again. I think its the brokerages (online and other) that are driving the ECN share gains. You feel there is no viable business reason for this to be occurring, but it is. The question is why?
