MRV Communications Announces Co-Founder Resignation
September 13, 1999 22:16
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--MRV Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:MRVC) today announced the
resignation of Dr. Zeev Rav-Noy, chief operating officer, treasurer and director, effective immediately.

Dr. Rav-Noy, who co-founded the company in 1988, resigned for personal reasons and to pursue other interests.

Dr. Rav-Noy said: "I am gratified and fortunate to have worked with so many dedicated and talented individuals over the past 11
years. MRV is rapidly moving forward and the efforts and investments we have made in R&D over the last two years are bearing
fruits. That success however has come with some personal sacrifice and now is an opportune moment to devote more time to my
family and other interests."

Commenting on today's announcement, MRV Chairman and co-founder Dr. Shlomo Margalit said: "Since co-founding MRV in
1988, Zeev has demonstrated leadership and dedication in guiding the growth of the company. He was instrumental in building
our commanding lead in Optical Access as well as our entry into complementary Internet infrastructure businesses. We will miss
the dedication he brought to the company; however, we respect and understand his decision."

(BSNS WIRE) NBase-Xyplex Introduces 'Intelligent' Open Subscriber System
NBase-Xyplex Introduces 'Intelligent' Open Subscriber System for Service
Providers

Business Editors & High-Tech Writers
NetWorld Interop Atlanta 99

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--

The Red-C Solution From NBase-Xyplex Is an Open Architecture
Device That Enables Carriers and ISPs to Offer Cost-Effective,
Competitive, Cutting-Edge Services

NBase-Xyplex, a division of MRV Communications Inc.
(Nasdaq:MRVC), today announced the Red-C 16000 Solution, the
industry's first intelligent networking device for subscriber
management that enables easy integration of new applications with an
"open" architecture.
The Red-C 16000 is the first product in NBase-Xyplex's new Red
Sea product line designed specifically for service providers. The
solution provides many native services such as QoS, VPN, policy-based
management, etc., and a flexible integration of "best-of-breed"
emerging services such as Voice-over-DSL, Video-on-Demand or firewall
security, all combined with connectivity to a carrier's billing and
authentication systems.
The result is the forward-thinking Red-C Open Subscriber System
(OSS), flexible for today's carrier requirements and scalable to
tomorrow's demands. The Red-C 16000 will be demonstrated this week at
Networld+Interop, Atlanta, Sept. 14-16, NBase-Xyplex booth No. 6746.
The Red-C 16000 includes an open architecture based on three
levels of openness: the OSS core, OSS interfaces and OSS applications.
These layers communicate via a common predefined structure designed to
ease the integration of third-party applications and to allow service
providers the flexibility to customize the Red-C to their specific
demands.
Philippe Szwarc, general manager of NBase-Xyplex, commented: "In
spite of strong competition from Redback Networks and Redstone
Communications in the subscriber management space, we believe
NBase-Xyplex will prevail due to the strength of our Open Subscriber
System.
"The Red-C solution is the first device to give service providers
an open interface to ensure application level flexibility so that they
can tweak the system for particular needs and further increase the
granularity of services they provide to their customers. The ability
for service providers to provision and charge for value-added services
is the key to maximizing revenue within the broadband space."
The Red-C 16000 gives service providers (RBOCs, CLECs, ISPs,
IXCs) the ability to "unbundle the copper loop" and release the Local
Exchange stranglehold. Voice-over-DSL support offers unprecedented
opportunities for CLECs looking to grow their business beyond Internet
connectivity. In the traditional DSL Internet market the business
model uses a fixed-based charging method, which has clear limitations.
The Red-C Solution provides the intelligence to introduce usage-based
billing by tracking users and their usage on a per-second basis.
"In addition to service selection, the Red-C solution enables
service providers to provision a range of value-added, high-margin
IP-based services such as VPNs, firewall filtering and VoIP," said
John Freeman, vice president of The Fearless Group, a high-tech
industry analysis and consulting firm.
"However, perhaps even more compelling for service providers is
Red-C's open architecture approach. This approach leverages
third-party development/customization, allowing service providers to
build a subscriber management system that fits their own, unique 'best
practices' and creates differentiation for their broadband service
offering."
The Red-C 16000 enables provisioning and management of
cutting-edge services such as video-on-demand, voice-over IP and VPN
over all popular access technologies such as ATM OC-3, DS3, T1/E1,
ISDN and digital modems. The protocol-agnostic Red-C offers service
providers an architecture that integrates new standards without
affecting performance, scalability or reliability.
The open I/O interfaces can combine with the open engine to
provide the hardware necessary to ensure that services are made
available without affecting system performance. This open I/O
interface uses a programmable interface for customized hardware-based
acceleration. All critical components of this carrier-class system are
fully redundant for complete reliability, and comply with carrier
environment standards.

Availability

The Red-C 16000 Solution will be available in Q4 1999. Baseline
pricing will start at $100,000 for a typical configuration.
