Visor is great news for 3Com. I have said it repeatedly before and will say it again. The Palm platform in about one year will become like the PC platform: an industry standard with intense competition on the hardware side, commoditized hardware and huge expansion of hardware volumes due to neat hardware and low prices. This essentially eliminates the Windows CE long term threat, because you now have lots of smart companies, many of them startups like Springboard, innovating on the hardware side -- something neither 3Com, nor Palm would have had the resources to do on their own. Since 3Com controls the operating system, many other key software applications, AND the wireless portal, its position with respect to this emerging PDA standard is similar to Microsoft's and AOL's position vis-a-vi the PC.
