MeDroogies,

I agree with you on the cash-thing. Although Compaq (and IBM
a decade ago) also has or had a very fat wallet.

About the brand-name. You are right but when Microsoft loses
momentum it is possible the brandname will turn against them.
Nobody likes to bet on a losing horse. It is not sexy to
have a Compaq these days. The I-Macs or a Dell are sexy.

Another (non)-argument. First there was the term Japan-bashing
because everyone was convinced the Japanese would buy America.
A few quarters later the Nikkei collapsed and is still reco-
vering. Don't look at their chart, it's horrible.

We already had the Microsoft-bashing. So what will be next?

But again, it's a non-argument.

By the way, it's kind of funny. For ten years Microsoft bought
every new technology because Bill was paranoia and afraid to
lose his monopoly-position. But now we know that it had been
a better idea to listen to Larry's vision 3 to 4 years ago.

And the vision was FREE! But is worth billions of dollar!

With regards,

Paul

MSFT has an amazingly talented bunch of programmers, too. It's a long
time since MSFT was a bunch BIOS-weenies, and in the last few years
they have recruited a ton of top-flight people from the valley.

That's the 3rd reason you shouldn't count them out.
