SAN DIEGO -- Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) expects to meet or exceed
analysts' estimates that it will earn 87 cents a share in the fourth quarter.

The company didn't specify which analysts' estimates it was using.

In a press release Tuesday, the wireless communications company said
demand is up in its chipset and phone units and it expects royalty payments
from licensees in the third quarter to exceed those received the prior quarter.

A First Call/Thomson Financial survey of 16 analysts put Qualcomm's fourth
quarter earnings at 88 cents a share.

The company reported 1998 fourth quarter earnings of $39.9 million, or 54
cents a diluted share, on revenue of $926 million.
