Michael,

>>it's a real deduction putting cash in shareholders' pockets.<<

When I last looked at the MSFT 10K I saw it broken out. But I vaguely remember it being on the cash flow statement as a positive cash item. I realize that it's a real deduction for tax purposes, but is it part of the income statement for shareholder reporting or is it treated like the options themselves and left off?

Wayne

Speaking of Microsoft's options-exercise tax shield, this year's 10K is out. I'm sure there's a nice version on their web site, but I like to stick with the SEC's ugly copy: sec.gov Options exercise resulted in a nice little $3 billion tax deduction. -mb
