I agree. That's a possibility. The currency will also probably go to hell meaning that the U.S. standard of living will fall sharply.

Heinz, I agree confidence ( psychology)is critical. the monetarists would argue that Japan's pump priming has been insufficient but the majority of money supply expansion takes place in the banking system if people do not wish to borrow money the attempts at monetary inflation are futile- pushing on a string.
