I don't think we're too far apart on this one. What I was trying to say was that since Intel has committed to Rambus for the high end, and AMD is going SDRAM/DDR, this may become a battle between Athlon and Coppermine, with either Rambus or DDR becoming a bystander casualty.

The EDO vs SDRAM transition didn't have competing chips with one chip committed to EDO and the other to SDRAM.

dan,
amd said something just a few weeks ago about switching to rambus end of next year. rmbs ceo confirmed that on cnbc when questioned by mark.
doesn't that make ddr doa?

True enough. But AMD has so little market share. Do you think they will be able to take more market share with the Athlon? Because if not, then DDR is relegated to being a niche product.
