Daniel

Let me rephrase. I didn't mean to imply that if there were a PRE-IPO distribution that there would be a huge "pop" - sorry. Actually, I think there would be a pop but a much smaller one. Also, there WOULDN'T be the same number of shares as under the proposed plan - from the beginning, under my scenario most of Palm's shares would be in play, not just a tiny amount - which would probably smooth Palm's entry into the market - arguably a desirable (less speculative and volatile) outcome.

Plus it's an issue of fairness, of giving current shareholders an even shot at WHATEVER happens. As it stands now, COMS holders get to sit on the sidelines and watch Palm get spun off and have to endure months of uncertainty before being able to do anything.

Companies shouldn't be "locking" their shareholders in like that. I also agree with Gary that unless MAJOR changes are announced in the way COMS does things, it is entirely possible that the complete spin off of Palm won't significantly affect the fortune of the remaining COMS.

What's the downside to my suggestion, vs. the current proposal, anyway? Are you just disagreeing for disagreement's sake? What about the idea of COMS retaining a piece of Palm? I'd like to hear what you think.

Andre

Wait a minute. You think COMS will keep the cash from the Palm IPO?
I thought the idea of the IPO was to give the new Palm Co. working capital.

Coms will get a bunch of cash (as if they need any more) and can renew their focus on growth markets.
