New Ford online unit builds on existing Web site
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept 15 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. <F.N>,
the world's second-largest auto maker, said Wednesday it has
established a new online business unit to build on its existing
Web site and connect customers globally with dealers.
The new unit will be headed by Brian Kelley, a Ford vice
president who joined the company from General Electric Co.
"Our consumer-connect business has a totally integrated
strategy to reach the consumer in conjunction with our dealers
at every touchpoint," Kelley said in a statement. "Our focus is
not on delivering e-business to Ford -- it's already here in
full force."
The new business unit will combine retail dealer and
electronic commerce activity and will also integrate Ford's
global electronic commerce activity from consumer purchase
through Ford's entire supply chain.
Ford said it was joining with software giant Microsoft
Corp. <MSFT.O> and business solutions software maker Trilogy
Software to build and maintain its new electronic commerce
business.
Development and marketing of in-vehicle communications will
also be part of the new business unit as interactive Web-based
solutions coupled with global positioning system (GPS)
technology offer the potential for in-vehicle products and
services, Ford said.
