Derek, you sure are a prize American-Dream-Whizz.... Re: If you are ever in the States Gustave, please take the opportunity to spend several months travelling. And I mean travelling a la "Truckin'" neo-hippie style. There is a vast unseen nomadic youth culture in north america, who are ardent anarchists and utopians. It is always a joy to see one's ideals played out. Or if you dont happen to have time, drop by San Francisco, and you shall see the ideologues of anarchism and socialism sprawled in alleyways and parks, "sparechangin" or otherwise known as begging for a living. "I deserve..." is probably the most widely heard expression amongst such individuals. Deserve being a synonym for want without earning. Philosophy helps or hinders a mind. Derek Yeah, that's the problem with Anarchists.... As soon as they get serious about implementing their politics, the bourgeoisie just dispatches the military --like in Paris in 1871 when French reactionary Thiers allowed Bismarck's Prussian troops to enter Paris (not to speak of the bloody crackdown in the aftermath of the Paris Commune); or like in Spain in 1936 when Chamberlain and his pro-Nazi side-kicks put the lid on the nascent Spanish democracy by giving Hitler and Mussolini a free hand to help Franco.... When I was in Chicago in 1991, I remember hearing on a WE TV-newscast that it was the first shoot-out-free weekend the city had had in a year or so.... The US urban fiasco should ring a warning bell: the high-tech recipe will just not be enough to soak up the US's redundant workforce. Actually, when the e-commerce revolution will spread full-blown, we'll witness a dramatic backrush in the service payroll. Most brick-and-mortar outfits will just get pushed out of the game by their virtual counterparts and hundreds of thousands of semiskilled people will get permanently displaced.... To claim that all these nine-to-fivers who used to work in retail stores (CDs,sportswear,...), travel agencies, bookstores, real estate, banking/insurance broking biz, etc. will all be recycled into web-designers, XML evangelists, e-shopwalkers, or hot-line hostesses, is a fraud. Did you read Jeremy Rifkin and William Greider?
