Looks like in response to my (and others I'm sure)complaints to Sun in regards to their support of the Staroffice product via newsgroups...

Sun has changed their web site from this:

Newsgroups

Sun's Staroffice support newsgroups are maintained by our engineers. All questions are answered by our technical specialists as well as professional Staroffice users.

to this:

Sun provides a variety of support and discussion newsgroups for StarOffice users designed for convenience and easy accessibility. The newsgroups are geared towards information exchange between StarOffice users and are not supported by Sun support engineers.

sun.com

And has included this...

If you are an existing StarOffice 5.x user who received a media key with the product and requires a registration key, please refer to the following newsgroup:
news://starnews.sun.com/staroffice.com.support.announce to obtain registration information.

Will sun provide any technical support for this "free" product???

It does show a bit about the complexities and manpower requirements to get a software product working well on many platforms. Apparently several news groups are to large of a drain on resources.. Or, is it to much of a effort (right now) to actually come up with the real solutions to users problems? I guess in the end Sun Staroffice supporters will do the work that Sun should be helping with.

I'm glad to see these changes, although I'm not really happy about Sun's apparent minimal support (at this time)for the Staroffice product and the way this looks as a stock holder...

Cheers...

Roger
