Yeah I disagree with some of his assertions:

Is Ericsson's belief in the GSM/TDMA convergence now starting to pay off -- after being derided as a pipe dream by many industry observers during recent years? Is this development blindsiding Lucent and Nortel, which seem to have neglected the convergence story and even GSM data solutions like GPRS? Can AT&T now hit back at Sprint by attacking its Achilles' heel -- the lack of a coherent international strategy?

I hate to inform Tero of his narrow focus, but Lucent is very much in the game on the convergence of any air interface. As a matter of fact they and Nortel are well ahead of Ericsson, in the fact that they produce all standards presently. Lucent is also deeply invovled with GRPS. I wish he would get his facts straight before he cast his Pax Europa view only. Who is deploying GSM in Saudi Arabia? Try Lucent. Who just sign a contract with AT&T to expand their netowrk? Lucent and Nortel. Who has built 75% of the CDMA systems? Lucent and Nortel. Maybe Tero ought to better investigate what the companies that he recklessly cast dispersions on more thoroughly. From where I sit, Lucent is the only true multi standard vendor. They have repeatedly have stated during the 3G hubris that they don't care what the outcome is, they are ready to compete whether there is one or differing global standards. Ericsson is the laggard.......
