Monte Sharma is a recent hire by Novell. He came from MT&T - the telco/ISP in Atlantic Canada that created an ADSL app hosting service based on NDS.

I think they have more to announce on this strategy regarding app hosting. This is an area in the services industry that I am EXTREMELY EXCITED about!!

IMHO there two related issues here which we are important at this stage:

a) the forthcoming release of Windows 2000 with a *free* *active* directory included

b) the business model for NDS, licenses, etc.

The market seems to have priced all the negatives.

Schmidt focus on cleaning business practices and accounting has led NOVL to report a rate of growth, which although by all measures good, is still somewhat below market expectations.

We are at an inflection point and the rate of growth could explode if Schmidt comes up with the right business model.

If you listened carefully to cc after earnings you could hear Schmidt and Stone saying that the services/consulting part of the business has *infinite* growth potential...
