Are you saying its the money that makes MSFT successful??

My original post speaks for itself. To paraphrase, I said that Billy has always had the money and influence to play catchup. This is nice for him, because he never has to innovate. Sit back and see what works and what doesn't, then throw a bunch of cash behind the good stuff, capitalizing on someone else's good idea.

Your not referring to that Brilliant $10 Billion Expense call the Network Computer are you?

Yes. It'll be realized, whether by Oracle, Sun, Microsoft, Apple, or some dark horse. The writing on the wall here is already starting to fade in the harsh light of the present, Duke. Can you still see it? The network is the computer.

The reason he has the money is the way our economy works is that we give Money to people who answer society's economic needs.

Please. You'd better wake up and smell what you're shovelin'. This tidy little maxim doesn't explain why AAPL is trading over $70.

Tsk, tsk...you've misplaced your understanding of the system.
We don't give money to those who answer the needs...we give money to those who CONVINCE us they've answered the needs, or who MANIPULATE the system to make it SEEM like they've answered the needs.
All cars today would be steam driven had the Stanley Steamer been developed just a short time before it had....
Sony didn't create video tape...or even VCRs
Dell didn't create computers, or even do it any "better" than anyone else.
No, Gates didn't answer any needs...per se. He just manipulated the system better than most of his competitors. Rockefeller knew a thing or two about that.
I'm not saying Gates is a bad guy, or he did anything illegal or wrong. But he isn't visionary. He bought, stole, and weaseled his way to his position...like most other wealthy people. That's hardly visionary or "special".

Still, when you get the money...it's easier to be a "fast follower" - if you know that being one is important. And Gates does. He's the expert fast follower. And he has the cash.

BTW, LE isn't such an idiot about NC...it is, after all, happening. Just because his "idea" didn't work for him doesn't mean he was wrong. He just wasn't able to execute it. Some other cool guys could. Gates couldn't (and still can't) execute it very well. But he CAN figure out that's where he needs to be. After all, he scoffed at anything more than 156k AND the internet....but he's there now - isn't he? And he's there because he has the cash. And he has the cash NOT because he answered a need, but because he convinced a few people that he had a "better" (ha!) OS, and cheated others out of their good ideas (well...harsh word, because Gates is the highest form of flattery for Apple).
