From the DELL press room. Hope it hasn't been posted. I've busy all day. Fez _______________________________DELL WIDENS LEAD IN PC SALES TO U.S. SMALL AND MEDIUM BUSINESSES Q2 1999 Market Share Doubles That of Nearest Competitor ROUND ROCK, Texas, Sept. 16, 1999 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, has widened its lead as the No. 1 computer systems vendor to U. S. small and medium businesses, according to research released by International Data Corporation (IDC).* According to IDC, Dell's unit shipments for this segment grew 63 percent year-over year, more than four times the small and medium business industry growth rate. The company's unit shipments for the second quarter rose to more than double its nearest competitor. IDC's U.S. PC Tracker research includes U.S. small and medium businesses with less than 500 employees. "Dell's No. 1 position extends across the entire small business spectrum, from businesses of one employee to companies with 400," said Frank Muehleman, vice president and general manager of Dell's small business division. "Small and medium business customers are increasingly recognizing the value of Dell's direct one-to-one relationship with customers, strong product lineup and growing array of service and support capabilities." Dell claimed more than 23 percent of the market in the small and medium business segment in the second quarter of the 1999 calendar year, according to the IDC study. Dell's eye-catching growth in the small business segment stretched across all product lines: growth of unit shipments of Dell's desktop systems grew three times as fast as the nearest competitor, making it No. 1 in market share. In notebook PCs, Dell continued to gain on the market leader, picking up more than one and a half points. In the server market, Dell accelerated to the No. 2 position and gained more share than any other major competitor. Dell understands the technology needs of small businesses, and is an industry-leader in major awards for its products, services and reliability. Among the products and services Dell offers small business customers are specialized sales and support teams; easy, secure and cost-effective online sales and support; and Premier Pages, personalized Web pages that enable customers to track and review their computer purchases.
