Some managers only "run, run and run". Others take time to step back, relax and clear the head by doing so. This usually results in a fresh, better, alternate view.

Paul, I think you are correct...up to a point. Anyone in a position of great responsibility needs to decompress from what they are doing and get some new perspective from something outside of work. However, I could give you many examples of company "founders" who had developed so many or such intensive outside interests that they really could not put in the time and mental energy to run a large enterprise, yet, they refused to give up command of the ship. The result is usally bad, not good for the company.

My concern with LE is that he is so egotistical that he has a "Larry can do no wrong" mentality and that this leads him to think that success comes from some sort of "golden touch" rather than plain old hard work.

It seems odd to me that when ORCL was really getting hammered in the spring, he was very involved and very visible on a daily basis(inside and outside the company). After the June "surprise" he seems to have floated off again...
