IBM's Via Voice on hand-held ? ; AOL's Andreesen likes AAPL products

AOL's former CTO and Netscape co-founder/developer recently praised AAPL in a interview:

" Great Falls, VA:
Your story about making the internet as easy to use as a Mac begs another question.

What do you think about Apple's latest products, particularly the G4, airport, and iBook, and what do you see happening in the future for Apple?

Marc Andreessen:
Apple's new products are simply amazing -- just last night I was excitedly showing someone the foldout ad for the G4 Macs in this week's Newsweek -- they are amazing machines, with great design and great marketing behind them.

It's been really great to see, it makes you wonder what could have been had Steve Jobs never been kicked out of Apple in 1985.

Apple looks like they have a great future in front of them now.

All I know is that I want a G4 and one of those huge new 22-inch Apple LCD displays :-).

Gotta run... thanks for all the great questions! "

Winston good info on MSFT/WinCE . Wonder if MSFT's desire to dismantle Symbian is being driven by IBM's repeated demos of "Via Voice" at SJ's Keynotes .

Wouldn't an "insanely great" AAPL PDA leapfrog current technology if it had voice I/O - particularly if IBM was included ?

<<Not one to be refused, however, Microsoft has partnered with Qualcomm to champion WinCE.>>

That's interesting to hear, since Qualcomm has come out with that nifty Palm OS-based phone. PDA and cellphone in one!

Haven't heard of any Microsoft/Qualcomm products..yet?

<<WinCE is attempting to be everyone's darling and is not particularly adept at doing anything very well.>>

Most PC techs do not mind making overtime supporting buggy Windows-OS products.

But we'll be darned if we have answer phone calls on weekends or after hours to resolved PDA and cellphone crashes.

Yes, CE is even buggier than Windows 3.11 ever was.
