Dave B, Pompsander, mindmeld, Tench:

I'm sorry that I've done such a poor job of making my point since it obviously didn't get through. I'm not saying who has to offer what. Intel can offer anything they want to. My point is that Rambus is where they are today solely because of Intel's lack of offering a choice. Get it? If Intel actually offered a true choice Rambus would be nowhere because almost everyone would be taking the other choice. Now you may say:
1. Intel is offering a choice with the still undefined future support somehow for some sdram with some chip set or other with still undetermined features which may or may not have other problems...(get the point?)
2. Who cares since this is a done deal so why not just go long rmbs and make millions.

I'll withhold my answer to 1. until we actually know something about the choice that we may see sometime, somehow, somewhere, ...

My answer to 2. is (and this is the entire point that I've been trying to make): Rambus may not be a slamdunk, folks. When problems develop and the going gets tough just remember that your horse didn't get to the front by running faster -- Intel tied it to the pace car! You're all convinced it's wonderful but it's not where it is by its own merit. It can be a long way down when you've got $2B mkt cap propped up simply by the fact that Intel is not offering a choice.
