I own one. My Wife purchased it. It's a Toshiba (I'm not sure of the model number). We enjoy it immensely and have actually accumulated an impressive collection of movies.

[I don't own one either. I'll probably buy a DVD player for my parents this Christmas. For myself--maybe early next year. I keep thinking I should wait until it records so I can chuck my VCR at the same time, but I know that's still some time away...]

Perhaps you could buy a DVD player now, and then pick up a D-VHS player for your recording... I hear that JVC and Sony will have some nice ones soon!
