News: WaveRider Communications Inc.: Bermuda Commissioners Hear Wireless Networks Are The 'Foundation For Successful E-Commerce' -- With North Rock Communications As Its Partner, WaveRider Will Showcase "Leading Edge Wireless E-Commerce Technology" -- HAMILTON, Bermuda--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1999-- In recent remarks before the Bermuda Telecommunications Commission, Charles Brown, vice president of Marketing, WaveRider Communications Inc. (OTC BB:WAVC)(Frankfurt:WVR.FSE), detailed the company's plans to partner with Bermuda's North Rock Communications, an Internet Service Provider (ISP), in order to bring high-speed Internet access to the island. WaveRider is a leading global provider of wireless Internet access products, including high-speed ``Last Mile Solutions' that will enable businesses, organizations, small offices, home offices and residential consumers to connect to the Internet. ``WaveRider is very excited about the opportunity of working with North Rock Communications to help bring Wireless Internet access to the territory of Bermuda,' Brown said. ``Bermuda's citizens are well-educated, industrious and heavy users of computers, both in the home and at work. Bermuda's government is committed to fostering an environment that will promote rapid and structured growth of electronic commerce. In short, WaveRider believes that Bermuda is an ideal environment in which to showcase to the rest of the world this leading edge technology and its capabilities to deliver high speed Internet access throughout the country.' In June, WaveRider and Hamilton-based North Rock Communications signed an agreement to deliver high-speed, cost-effective wireless Internet access throughout the island nation. Currently, Bermuda's wired infrastructure is unable to meet demand for high-speed Internet access. ``Countries throughout the world are investing in electronic commerce infrastructure to ensure that they are not left behind in the race to e-commerce success,' Brown said. ``Wireless networks such as those proposed by North Rock and WaveRider can play a key role in this race. Wireless networks provide the foundation upon which successful electronic commerce ventures can be built. Wireless networks enable the rapid deployment of affordable, reliable, secure and high speed Internet connectivity networks. Wireless networks enable the delivery of the Internet to previously hard to reach and traditionally telecommunications deprived regions.' Bermuda is a hub for international business and home to 300 multinational firms and nearly 10,000 registered companies. Its per capita Gross Domestic Product of $38,000 is one of the highest in the world. Sixty-five thousand people live on an archipelago connected by bridges and causeways. Bermuda's principal industries are banking, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. In the next two weeks, submissions by participating parties will be reviewed by the Telecommunications Commission. Following the successful outcome of this review, North Rock plans to introduce commercial service immediately upon release of the amended License. Residential Internet services, based on WaveRiders' LMS3000, are planned to follow in the second quarter of next year. About WaveRider Communications Inc.
