I know, Mel, I was shocked when I saw them. They look like tar pits. But he claims he does go to the Dr, and gets them removed, and he says the Dr says they're not the most serious type. As the idiot had some on his arm for three months before doing a goddam thing about it, I can only assume he is correct.

As an aside ~ I think, I have a theory, that a lot of people up here have secret, maybe even from themselves, death wishes.

It can be a very morbid place.

Apparently, these solid black ones are not as serious as the red and multicolored ones.

They sure LOOK bad. Like Black Holes.
They are as black as vacant space. Or black glass.

(Have you been gone, or lurking, young lady?)

MJ says, "I'm more worried about his lungs and his liver. Than his poor fair-skinned grew-up-in-LA-body. The guy is DOOMED."

It is very sad, as he is the nicest and funnest human I know. MJ is the Nicest, but he's the mix there.

I have a meter that measures lung capacity, I can blow 550 on it these days. That's good. When I'm getting sick, it drops rapidly. 350 is not good for a human. (A girl maybe, but not a human.)

Well, we had Dash here a couple years ago and he blew like 175 and 250 on that thing. Less than his kid and MJ, and me, of course. He won't blow on it anymore, so we don't know.

I think Emphysema will kill him. It's a very, very, sad story.

Because he is my cousin, I have known him all my life. We lived near each other and together in Pasadena. And we have been, but both our admissions, best friends. We can just go anywhere and do anything, and have fun. Work together, travel, drive around, whatever. I am always happy to see him. I know good times are ahead. He says the same. I mean we went to buy him tires last week, and it was a gas. It's a very mellow gassing.

This guy raised three truly wonderful kids, who like him and whom he likes, by himself. Their "mom" ran off when they were two. and four. He went from underdog to owning his own business, and being better than good at it. The guy has kept his sense of humor, and still takes delight in the littlest things. He smiles a lot. And his brain is far more complex and observant than people realize; and that window is always open to us.

He's a hero to us.

And all he asks for, is a cigarette and a gin and tonic.
