E, do you happen to know at which trimester it becomes apparent that a baby has Down's syndrome (sp?). I believe many downs syndrome babies are not brought to term. Is that something you can determine in the first 3 mos? Tia

I don't understand why, with all this marvelous technology available, we can't deduce precisely when the grouping of cells becomes human. Somewhere in the time line brain waves start and a heart starts beating. I would think once the life can feel pain it deserves protection. I have no idea when this occurs, but to pick an arbitrary number, lets say 10 weeks. After 10 weeks the life is considered human, he or she can be removed and incubated until able to sustain his/herself. I know we can do it technologically, but would this modest proposal fly?

On the one hand, they like the idea of getting the government to force the woman to give birth against her will, because they are convinced their own religious views are right, and that obedience to them should be mandatory for all citizens...

What an utterly ignorant and bigoted position. Can't "tolerate" the fact that some may disagree on the issue? Thought you granola heads were big on "tolerance"? JLA

Good post, E. You've set it out very well. Reality is unpleasant, sometimes. I admire your courage.
