I bet the poor people in East Timor wished that they had guns. They could then have defended themselves against the killing being done by the Indonesian militias. Now we have to send in a United Nations force to do the protection after 100s of thousands have been slaughtered.

There are laws but they are fairly strict. I'm not sure what they are.

I know one person that has a gun, my father-in-law. It's 30 years old and he can't remember where he put the bullets.

As a Canadian who owns a registered licensed hand gun I was amazed to find out that most deaths by hand gun in Canada are suicides. Most of these suicides are policemen who shoot themselves with their police weapon.

If you want to prevent most of the deaths by hand gun in Canada, simple, just make it illegal for the police to own or use a hand gun.
