Re: AMD can be materially damaged if one of the largest Athlon motherboard folks...

Asus will be shipping soon and so will Acer, if FIC has problems the only one hurt will be FIC. The Athlon mobo business is high margin, high profile business that will be competed for in Q4. The mobo capacity that will be available for Q4 is a multiple of what AMD can make in terms of Athlons.

The Taiwan mobo builders make millions of boards per month. Once the designs are shipping (happening now) mobo capacity consraints are gone.

If VIA has a delay in shipping volume KX133, AMD will have to run some more Irongates - and make some more money doing that.

Chucker - Re: "Think about how that works, and you will see that AMD can make the numbers for the quarter but be materially damaged and end up looking terrible if one of the largest Athlon motherboard folks have problems."

Well, now, should we EXPECT this eventuality ???

Oh, by the way - have you (or anyone else) heard the rumor that AMD has actually ramped their AThlon shipments to 600,000 this quarter ?
