uncle, how is it that HWP can be so stupid as to incorporate RAMBUS into their VL600 PC? How is it that we all know RAMBUS technology is a loser. I mean we've heard it enough from Dan3, Don and others. Maybe one or all of them can explain HWP's thinking? If they can't then I have to figure they were wrong and HWP is right.

unclewest:
<<Continuing HP's commitment to PC stability, the new HP Vectra VL600 corporate PC provides software image stability throughout its nine- to 12-month product lifecycle -- even with processor or memory upgrades.>>

This is the strange statement for a computer company to make. As I read it, it says "Don't buy to many of these units as configured today; I'll be producing much faster and with higher RAM capacity within the year." It's a pre-warning to MIS managers to kick the tires on these models and plan your future purchases on next version of these types of systems.
This could be a plus It could be a minus short term.

You couple that with Kayak dual processors models -- the ultimate in sucking up to Intel by giving them 2 microprocessor sales in one box -- means that RDRAM aren't fast by themselves and Intel is willing to boost processing capabilities on RDRAM systems by additional heavy discount to HP with 2nd microprocessor.
Still looking for Carmel (840 chipset) to see if RDRAM can bring faster performance in RAM subsystem.
