Synopsized excerpts from a recent ML research report on CSCO:

ML believes the valuation Cisco has given Cerent and Monterey reflects the anticipated demand for optical networking over the next few years. They say that Cisco has indicated that it believes the market for optical networking could be $10 billion by 2002.

ML says that Cisco's presence in optical networking is likely to increase pressure on competitors such as NT, LU, and CIEN to accelerate optical network development and also to price systems more aggressively. This in turn should drive the price of bandwidth down and volumes up. All of this would increase demand for optical components at all levels.

Merrill Lynch has been accumulating MRV lately.
Again from watching Level II they jump on the bid until they think they are holding up the price then
drop their bid and always seem to
be hanging around the bid lately.

Bruce, any comments??
