Elmer, The demand for flash will allow AMD to run all it's fabs at full capacity for the next year or so generating enough cash to obviate the need for a sale/partnership at Dresden and pointing the gun away from it's head. This cash will ease many problems for AMD. Flash cash alone could make them profitable. New mobos and chipsets will allow sales expansion this quarter, so we wait and see.

Re: how do the stack up against simple on-die cache?

It's too bad that Intel couldn't get the level 1 cache on Coppermine past 32K. I'll bet performance would be increased if it had the 128K level 1 cache Athlon has. How many additional cycles are required to fetch from level 2 on Coppermine when there is a cache miss in level 1? Is it just 1 extra clock?
