<<With ten times as many people, you may have ten times the number of crazies....all with easy access to a gun.
Doesn't that scare the bejeezus out of you.>>

You'd think it would, but it doesn't seem to. Of course, I don't own a gun either.

Now let's see, if crazies have easy access to guns excluding of course those who don't own guns, ergo uneasy access, who does that leave?

Its a very, very thin line between law abiding gun owner and law breaker, IMO.

Desperate people will do desperate things, and that damn sure doesn't exclude those who own, legally or otherwise, firearms.

<<Does every shooting in the US make it to the National news?>>

I don't think so. Too many inner-city gang/drug shootings for us to follow. Can't have mundane stuff like that replace our favorite entertainment of political scandles! LOL! But, sad to say, you folks in the Great White North are just beginning to experience the gang problems since they are now just beginning to infiltrate your cities on the west coast. Give it a few years and the inner-city shootings will get ho-hum play on CBC.

<<With ten times as many people, you may have ten times the number of crazies....all with easy access to a gun. Doesn't that scare the bejeezus out of you.>>

Well you got me there. It isn't a very pleasant thought. However, I prefer the thought of a well-armed citizenry over an unarmed citizenry. Frankly, I figured out a long time ago that we elect buffoons to office just so we know that they won't be smart enough to try to trample our rights. Having a buffoon in office is preferable to having to take up arms against one's own government that has turned tyrannical, but I do want that option just in case a smart guy (posing as a buffoon) somehow gets elected (I'm a little worried about Dan Quayle and Jesse Ventura... no one could be that stupid, could they?).

<<However, every second truck I pass on my way to Pittsburgh has a rifle hanging from the back. I can't believe what I see to be honest with you.>>

Hey, no need to worry there. The guys with rifles aren't a concern. No one (except in Canada) commits robberies and shoots people with rifles. US criminals prefer easily concealed handguns and psychos prefer machine guns. You've got a higher chance of getting killed in a car accident (especially if you're travelling on 401 to get to the US) than you do of getting shot down here (unless you tend to hang out on the streets of an inner-city area at 2 am when you visit the US).
