Big freaking deal. New Ford web site lets you pick out your new car color than sends you to a dealer who puts you though the same old song and dance they've always done:

Ford to join with Microsoft to take orders online
Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO -- New car buyers looking for a Ford will be able to buy exactly the car they want, using the Web to choose the paint color, upholstery, stereo system and other details, under a joint venture between Ford Motor Co. and Microsoft Corp.

The agreement announced Monday upgrades Microsoft's CarPoint Web site so that users can have their orders matched with cars in dealer lots, in distribution centers or even on the factory floor.

Once a customized car is complete, the Web site user would be referred to a dealer, who would negotiate the price and deliver the car.
