The interesting thing about investing in "gorillas and kings" is that on a day like today there is no fear...sure a company like msft, csco, qcom can go down along with everyone else, but there is no way their business or success or earnings are going to disappear. Thus we know that eventually stock price will reflect that success.
On holding lesser known companies, even companies that we personally know are very successful and forging ahead, a day like this is more frightening because although the company is not going to disappear, Wall Sts recognition of it can disappear for a long enough time to make us nervous about "dead money".

And on a non gorilla: why on earth would 3com Sell the Palm pilot division...isnt it their most popular successful product????? I'll bet 3com shareholders are not too happy about that...the great earnings dont mean much if the money earning part will leave.?????
