MOTOROLA INC's current inability to meet orders for its G4
microprocessor is not expected to hurt the company's 3Q earnings,
said one analyst. "We believe the impact ... will be immaterial,"
Warburg Dillon Read analyst Jeffrey Schlesinger wrote in a
research report released Tuesday. Due to production problems the
company has yet to detail, Motorola has delivered only about 40%
of the G4 chips that Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL) has ordered for
its Power Mac computers. As a result, Apple is expecting a 30% cut
in earnings this quarter. But the impact on Motorola is
negligible, Schlesinger said, because the G4 contract is believed
to account for only 5% of Motorola's semiconductor sales or 1% of
total revenue. (Dow Jones)
