Huh???? What is different about a "next-generation router" and a router with CISCO IOS which supports "tomorrows multiservice networks" today??? What is the technical difference. If you don't know that's OK... but I'm clearly missing something. What do you mean specifically about next generation routing.

btw: there are no analogies to the layer 2 networking that was done in the late 80's to the layer 3 routing that the Cisco team developed.... Do you mean layer 4 routing? Do you mean application aware networking? These are supported within Cisco architectures as well as LU's and NT's. So, please tell me what you mean.

Maybe, Wizard. But what about the even more farsighted companies that are beginning to use optics for the high end? Sure Juniper may grab a fair chunk of the high end in the short term, but as they focus on electronics, the rest of the industry may move to optics.

PS take note of the recent acquisitions, Cisco has made in the optics arena.
