Churches are non-profit making organisations, thus they are similar to charities, do you think charities should pay tax, instead of using the money for the reason that people donate it... to help the needy or whatever.
Christians pay tax, they're the ones that use the roads, not the church.

TigerPaw, don't other charitable organizations get tax breaks? I don't understand why a church would need to hold functions in a community hall when they have their own building. I personally resent your assumption about preachers. I happen to know a few and they do not at all have the attitude that you present. Maybe some other ones do. But your remark is a blatant generalization.

They don't even think about paying a cent. The preacher never once ponders "I wonder if the fire department could do a better job if I put a few dimes toward those brave and hardworking individuals? .... Naaaaa ! ".

And who said there is only one taxpayer per city? Certainly not me.

So all we need is one taxpayer per city?

Also. I was born in the pacific northwest. And go back to visit relatives quite often. And I've got news for you. there are plenty of churches in Seattle(correct spelling).

TigerPaw, I can also tell you that I don't know about other churches. But the one I attend is a small neighborhood church. We don't use any community centers for any reason. We don't have bingo parties. We do give food to anyone who knocks on the office door, whether they go to the church or not. We Have also paid rent for needy people in the neighborhood, given women rides to visit their husbands in jail, also not church members. And the pastor does not make one cent more in his salary, no matter how much money is put in the offering plates.

How do I know all of this to be true? I work at the church part time doing their accounting work. On a voluntary basis, I might add.

So please don't judge us all by some stereotype.
