The last 3 weeks in the DP poll have shown bears around 25%.

While the newsletter writers have become progessively bearish since July as most stocks topped out then and continued lower.

I believe the AAII sentiment poll is 60% bulls.

Bobby, i agree all the polls show somewhat excessive bearish sentiment. but don't forget that the market kept on rising on excessive bullish sentiment for most of this year. it would be interesting to gauge foreign investors' sentiment...is there a service doing that? foreign investors are the key to this market imo.

regards,

hb

BB: I notice that the extremes cited in this report do not mark significant turning points in the market, as far as I can remember.

I've monitored IIA data for a several years, and I find that extremes in sentiment from that source more closely correlate with the turns we have seen. (i.e., 7/98, 10/98, 7/99).

Wish I could find an up to date on-line source for those numbers, particularly with historical charts.

regards,

jw

Bobby,

I'm telling you, the only reason we haven't started to rally hard is that everyone is looking at the same numbers. If this many people are right and we go down from here, I may as well quit this business as the entire country is now an expert. How could I possibly trade to my advantage!

Matt

PS: Good quote. I guess you are one of the only ones who is not thinking I'm crazy. Dow 12,000-- don't miss the move.

Bobby, NYSE members have been net sellers for 7 weeks in a row now...and they stepped up their selling in the latest reporting period yet again. the decisionpoint fearless forecasters poll has ST bulls at 67% as of 09/17. this is the third week the bulls have been north of 50%. so not all polls show bearish sentiment as being high.

regards,

hb
